As the United States Coast Guard reported in 2014, the 4,064 recorded recreational boating accidents involved 610 deaths, 2,678 injuries and approximately $39 million in property damage. Open motorboats (47%) were the most common type of watercrafts involved in accidents, followed by personal watercraft (17%) and cabin motorboats (15%), while 8 out of 10 of the boaters who drowned were using vessels of 21 feet in length or smaller.
