Unfortunately for this motorcyclist, the responsible driver, in this case, was both.

He was arrested at the scene for suspected DUI and admitted to texting at the time of the crash. Texting and Alcohol-Related Accident Injuries

Distracted driving is a term that refers to any activity that robs your attention needed to drive safely. Such activities include drinking, eating, putting on makeup, operating the radio, and talking to other passengers in the car. However, in recent years, texting while driving has been recognized as being just as deadly or even worse than drinking and driving.

The NHTSA reported that 3,142 people died in 2019 due to distracted driving alone. What is even more heartbreaking is that 233 of these deaths were teens between the ages of 15 and 19 years old.
